WISCONSIN ENERGY STAR Highland Homes Model Home
July 21, 2010

Milwaukee - The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) is ranked third in the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis region in terms of ENERGY STAR-qualified homes built out of 75 ENERGY STAR partners in the area, according to federal ENERGY STAR rankings.

HACM has constructed a total of 194 ENERGY STAR-qualified homes – trailing only Kaerek Homes, Inc. (224) and William Ryan Homes (266) – including 30 from April 2009 to March 2010 alone.

“This ranking demonstrates our firm commitment to ensuring Milwaukee residents have access not only to affordable housing in terms of up-front costs, but efficient homes that save them money over the long term as well,” said Milwaukee Common Council President and HACM Board Chair Willie L. Hines, Jr.

In additional to being ranked third overall in ENERGY STAR-qualified homes, HACM was one of only two organizations in the region to have a 100% ENERGY STAR qualification rate for all homes constructed.

HACM has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2003.

“We’re very pleased with the amount of success our organization has had with the ENERGY STAR program,” said Tony Pérez, Secretary-Executive Director of HACM.

To earn the ENERGY STAR rating, a home must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes include energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes.

HACM provides safe, high-quality and affordable housing to a diverse population of residents in over 4,000 public housing and 1,000 multi-family market rate rental units. In addition, HACM manages a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program that serves more than 5,600 families. HACM further provides a wide range of educational, employment, and social services to enhance residents’ self-sufficiency. For more information about HACM, visit www.hacm.org
